Located just two blocks from the San Mateo downtown area, residents can easily walk to shops, restaurants, the park andmovie theatres. I looked at several condominiums that are currently for sale. A lovely 1 bedroom, 1 bath condo with a remodeled kitchen is listed for $ 359,000.(listing agent Arlene Sullivan/Coldwell Banker, San Mateo) asullivan@cbnorcal.com) An other floor plan offered a second bathroom and a den for $ 399,000 but didn’t have the kitchen up-dates. (listing agent Annie Kraemer/Coldwell Banker San Mateo annie@anniekraemer.com) Unit # 410 was a spacious 1300 sqft condo with 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. The Regent is based on the independant living concept, however if in need, residents can temporarily move to the assisted living wing. In addition to purchasing a condo, residents pay a monthly membership fee and need to pass a physical exam and qualify financially. The Peninsula Regent is offering a retirement planning seminar on Sunday November 7th.

If you are approaching retirement age and own Real Estate in the Bay Area, you might want to plan a trip to beautiful Southern Oregon which by the way has similar climate patterns as Northern California. The Rogue Valley Manor is located in Medford, Oregon. This beautiful campus offers retirees from California an affordable option to buy into a Continuing Care community. Located just 27 miles of the California/Oregon border it is easy to visit in a day’s drive from the Bay Area. Entrance fees for a one bedroom apartment in the main Manor Building start at $ 103,000 with a monthly accommodation fee of approx. $ 1800. Besides three meals a day, the fee includes: weekly linen service, cable, electricity, water and housekeeping every three weeks and much more. Studios, two and three bedroom apartments and cottages are available as well. When you schedule a visit with their marketing office at 1-800-848-7868 make sure to inquire about their complimentary round of golf at Quail Point Gold Course. Just off Interstate 5 the Rogue Valley Manor is worth a visit!

Some of my clients are thinking about transitioning into a retirement community. Selling your home is only part of the process. The question is where will one live. If family members are close by, seniors have the support of loved ones. However many older residents in our community have no family members at all, or their children live in an other state and find it difficult to do the research. I have decided to learn more about the options available. Yesterday a client and I visited the Saratoga Retirement Community in Saratoga. The main Spanish style building built in 1912 was completely remodeled about three years ago and is absolutely beautiful! The grounds on this 37 acres campus are lovely and the pool facilities are impressive. There are one-, two-, and two bedroom plus den floor plans available for the apartments. Cottages have their own one car garage. As a Continuing Care Retirement Community (CCRC), residential living, assisted living services, specialized care for individuals with Alzheimer’s and skilled nursing care are offered. There is an entrance fee and a monthly fee. Please contact the Saratoga Retirement Community for the current fee schedule. We ended our visit with a delightful lunch which could have been served at one of the best restaurants in the area. The Saratoga Retirement Community is definitely worth a visit!

Pacific Retirement Services, Inc. is building a new retirement campus in Foster City. If this project will be anything like their Saratoga campus, seniors (62 years and older) have a lot to look forward to. The Foster City building should be completed in 3 years or less. According to their website, plans call for 251 residential living apartments and 36 assisted living apartments. For seniors who are thinking about selling their current home in the near future, this might be an opportunity to stay in San Mateo county and to enjoy the comfort of a continuing care environment in a luxurious setting.
